Intel provides a software network knowledge base for publishing and sharing information both internally and externally.
Intel is the world's largest semiconductor chip maker. Intel's products include chips, boards, and other semiconductor products that are the building blocks integral to computers, servers, handheld devices, and networking and communications products. Intel's component-level products consist of integrated circuits used to process information, including microprocessors, chipsets, and flash memory. Intel's goal is to be the preeminent provider of semiconductor chips and platform solutions to the worldwide digital economy.
The Challenge
The Intel Software Network (ISN) was set up to support Intel software engineers and external partners developing software on Intel platforms. It consisted of several Websites containing content under the headings of Tools & Resources, Communities, and Discussion & Opinion (Blogs and Forums). The ISN lacked support for user contributions to content maintained on the sites. As a result, the content available was not being optimized with valuable insights and experiences contibuted from internal and external developers.
The Solution
Intel purchased the Jot wiki software to build a knowledge base that would enable internal and expternal software developers to contribute content in a community environment. CommunityXPerts™ was hired to build two wikis. One wiki contained articles on how specific applications of Intel technology and products were being used. The second wiki contained a knowledge base of known solutions to problems on "how to make software applications work well on Intel platforms". Besides How-To articles, the knowledge base contained Case Studies and Code Samples contributed by registered users on the site. The two wikis were designed to have a common user interface with the other ISN sites, and a single sign-on, so users could easily navigate between pages of content contained in the ISN wikis and Websites.
The Benefits
Intel software engineers and external partners can contriubte and share content based on a wide range of experiences and insights in a centralized environment. This has resulted in a rich knowledge base of information available to the Intel developer community.
