Curl launches a new online community for developers to support a major drive to re-establish their Rich Internet Application platform in the U.S.
Curl provides a Rich Internet Application platform for building and deploying Web-based applications that demand complex, highly interactive interfaces previously only possible as client-server applications. Using Curl, developers can implement a new class of complex, business-critical, Web-based applications that cannot easily be developed with Ajax or other smart client technologies. Curl allows corporations with legacy client-server applications to move to Web-based delivery, increasing reach and reducing cost. Curl has over 300 customers and 40 partners world-wide.
The Challenge
Founded in 1998, Curl is headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sumisho Computer Systems in Japan. After being acquired by Sumisho, the market focus shifted away from the U.S. Curl has over 300 customers and 40 partners world-wide, most all of which are in Japan and Pacific Rim countries. With a major push for IT to Web-enable existing business applications, Sumisho decided to launch a major drive to re-enter the U.S. marketplace with the Curl platform. The existing online Developer Center had languished for several years due to the market focus being in Japan and Pacific Rim countries. The site lacked any "buzz" and suffered from little traffic and infrequent contributions by developers.
The Solution
Curl recognized the need to recast the Developer Center into a fully functional community environment that would attract developers and provide the support they needed to develop successful Rich Internet Applications using the Curl platform. Curl contracted with CommunityXPerts™ to build an online Developer Community that would help them meet their goals in re-establishing their presence in the U.S. market. CommunityXPerts™ recommended the Jive Software platform, an enterprise class solution, on which to build the new community site. Best practices developed by CommunityXPerts™ were employed in building the online Developer Community throughout the planning, design, and development phases of the project.
The Benefits
The resulting online Developer Community incorporated a rich mixture of content including a Curl blog, discussion forums, interactive training modules, user documentation, wiki articles, multi-media, special interest groups, feeds from Curl Open Source projects, among many other community features and functions designed to enhance the developer experience.
